Founded in 2001 and named for the familiar Mexican
folk icon, the La Catrina Quartet's mission is to perform
and promote the music of Latino composers alongside
the masterworks of classical repertoire, while using their
fluency in English and Spanish to reach audiences of
diverse backgrounds. Despite their youth, La Catrina
Quartet has already premiered and recorded several works
written for them, "...a prodigious conjunction of individual
talents" - La Jornada Michoacan,
Mexico. Recent
important awards and achievements include winning
the competitive three-year appointment as Quartet-in-Residence
of the Western Piedmont Symphony in North
Carolina. The quartet was recently featured as one of
the "next generation of classical stars" in a showcase at
Carnegie Hall attended by hundreds of concert presenters.
